Dutch vets: an appointment button is not the same as online booking

46 of the 56 Dutch vet clinic websites we scanned (82%) invite you to make an appointment. For 38 of them we found no booking system behind the button; only 8 connect it to one.

The gap between the button and the agenda

46 of 56 Dutch clinics invite you to make an appointment somewhere on the site. What happens next differs: a form, an email, or a real calendar. The systems we recognised: Vetstoria (7), Wix Bookings (1).

A pet owner who fills in a form still waits for a callback, which is exactly the step online booking is meant to remove.

How we measured this

We drew independent businesses with a website from OpenStreetMap in six cities per country (the Netherlands), skipped chains and social media profiles, and picked up to 60 at random per sector and country.

Our scanner read each homepage and its contact pages the way a visitor's browser receives them, and looked for booking systems, booking buttons, chat, forms and published email addresses. It checked that every published email domain can receive mail.

4 sites were left out of the figures because they did not load or no longer belonged to the business. We contacted nobody and name no business.
